Actress involved in child custody dispute

Florida residents likely know Lena Headey best for her portrayal of the scheming matriarch Cersei Lannister on HBO's popular television show "Game of Thrones", but they may not be aware that the 43-year-old actress is involved in a contentious child custody dispute. Heady has a 6-year-old son from a marriage that ended in divorce in 2012, and her former husband took legal action after the Emmy-nominated actress enrolled the boy in an English school without consulting him first.

Sources say Biel and Timberlake headed for divorce

Florida fans of Justin Timberlake or Jessica Biel might have heard that the two are getting a divorce and preparing for a child custody battle. The divorce has been rumored for some time, and initial reports of a possible split arose after the two were seen not interacting with one another at a public event.

Some psychologists argue for joint child custody

While a bill aimed at making joint physical custody more common in divorced families failed in Florida, shared custody is a growing trend throughout the country, and some states have passed bills that make it the default in divorce cases. Although for decades the approach has been for one parent to have primary custody so that the child has stability, psychologists now believe that barring issues like mental illness or abuse, a child benefits from time with both parents.

Florida is unlikely to pass shared custody law

Many child psychologists and about 70 percent of the public are in favor of shared custody arrangements for the children of divorcing couples, and 20 states have introduced reforms to their custody laws that reflect these sentiments. However, most experts feel that a shared custody law is unlikely to be adopted in Florida.

Establishing your rights as a father in Florida

Many Florida fathers feel like their hands are tied when it comes to physical custody of their children, believing that the mother will always be granted 100 percent time sharing. Whether you were previously married to your child's mother or are an unwed father, you can establish your parenting rights. While it is true that the courts have historically favored mothers over fathers in awarding custody, this is no longer the case for the most part.

Custody battle between rapper Tyga and Blac Chyna

Florida fans of rapper Tyga may be following his custody battle with Black Chyna over their son King Cairo. The 3-year-old lives with his mother, but Tyga filed for custody after Blac Chyna was arrested while trying to board a flight with two ecstasy pills in her luggage. She said that someone else had packed her bags and the pills did not belong to her. Tyga has requested that she only have their son on weekends while he gets him during the week.

Florida grandparents' visitation rights laws and concerns

A new Florida law regarding the visitation rights of grandparents has raised questions about visitation arrangements in cases where one parent is deceased, absent or in a persistent vegetative state. Under new laws, grandparents may petition the court for visitation rights if the remaining parent has been convicted of a felony or violent crime. One Florida couple asked the court for visitation rights after their daughter died, leaving their granddaughter with her biological father.

Chris Brown reaches agreement in custody battle

Florida entertainment fans may have heard that singer Chris Brown has reached a settlement in the custody dispute he had been having with Nia Guzman. Media sources indicate that Brown will be permitted 12 days of unsupervised visitation with his 1-year-old daughter, Royalty, every month.

Parent alienation and reunification therapy

There may be Florida residents who can benefit from learning more about some of the current issues associated with parent alienation and reunification therapy. If one parent can convince a judge that the other is attempting to alienate their child and hinder their relationship, the court may be compelled to order the children to participate in reunification therapy. Parent alienation syndrome was introduced in the 1980s, and there have been several cases affecting American families across all economic classes.
