Florida residents might better know Keisha Knight Pulliam as Rudy Huxtable from "The Cosby Show" but may not know about the legal troubles that 37-year-old Pulliam could soon be facing as the actress and her husband are getting a divorce after less than a year of marriage. Former NFL linebacker Ed Hartwell filed divorce papers in Atlanta on July 25 and cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the break up.
Pulliam had announced that the couple is expecting a baby, but the 38-year-old Hartwell is reportedly asking for a paternity test for the unborn baby girl who is due in January 2017. In the papers he filed, Hartwell claims the reason for the split is because Pulliam makes decisions independently about things a couple should decide together. Neither person has publicly commented on the divorce yet.
The couple dated for four months before getting engaged on New Year's Eve and marrying weeks later. Hartwell was previously married to Lisa Wu who was formerly on the 'Real Housewives of Atlanta," and Pulliam has never been married before.
Fathers have certain rights and responsibilities once paternity is established in family law cases. A father might be ordered to pay child support for a child or children, and a father could request joint custody or visitation rights. When sharing time with another parent, one person may have primary physical custody and spend more time with the child. However, both parents could share legal custody, which allows each parent to have a say in major decisions concerning a child. When working out child custody matters, one may wish to consult with an attorney whether settling matters in or out of court.
